Kobelco Model 8 Excavator Suddenly Loses All Operational Capability: A Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide
Introduction
When operating a Kobelco excavator, it can be stressful if the machine suddenly stops working entirely during operation. This blog post will help you quickly diagnose and resolve this issue.
Step 1: Check the Safety Lock and Fuses
First, check the safety lock lever. Lift and lower it while listening to the monitor for two click/beep sounds. If there is no sound, start by checking the 10A safety lock fuse located in the bottom row of the fuse box.
Note: If the fuse is intact, check the safety lock limit switch for power, wire breakage, or physical deformation.
Step 2: Inspect the Safety Lock Relay
If the electrical circuit to the limit switch is fine, check the safety lock relay. You can swap it with a neighboring relay to see if the machine responds.
Step 3: Test the Safety Lock Solenoid Valve
If the relay is functional, move to the engine compartment to check the safety lock solenoid valve. Normal resistance should be around 34 ohms. Alternatively, you can swap it with another valve or manually screw in the top valve stem to test.
Step 4: Check the Pilot Pump and Hydraulic System
If the solenoid valve is working properly but still no movement, the issue points to the hydraulic pump side. Remove the pilot filter hose to check if oil is being pumped normally. If no oil is pumped, inspect the gear pump for gear wear or spline damage.
