How to Troubleshoot Kobelco Excavator Engine Issues: Black Smoke and Misfires (Guide)
Is your Kobelco excavator emitting black smoke, experiencing misfires, or making unusual noises? These symptoms are usually signs of a fuel injector malfunction. I’ve put together a guide to help you diagnose these issues efficiently.

Kobelco Excavator Engine Diagnosis
Method 1: Checking Cylinder Compensation Values (10-Series Models)
For 10-series Kobelco models, you can diagnose injector health directly through the monitor.
Step 1: Hold the buzzer button while turning the ignition key to the ON position.
Step 2: Press the confirmation key three times to enter the service menu, then navigate to "Service Adjust 1".
Step 3: Select "Check Injector" on the second page.
Step 4: Start the engine. The RPM will drop to ~800. A healthy deviation is within ±0.4.
Method 2: The "Stop Cylinder" Test
If you need to isolate a specific faulty cylinder, use the "Stop Cylinder" feature.
Navigate to "Service Adjust 2" and select "Stop Cylinder".
。Select the specific cylinder (e.g., 1-4 for J05 engines) you want to test.
If the black smoke or knocking noise improves after cutting the fuel to a cylinder, that injector is likely faulty.
Note: For 8-series models, an external diagnostic tool and a professional technician are required for accurate analysis.
